How the direction map is calculated

A transparent, deterministic matching method for career reflection—not a psychometric instrument or a prediction of success.

What the assessment measures

The free assessment gathers six broad work-interest signals: practical, analytical, creative, helping, enterprising, and organizing. Twelve rating questions contribute two observations to each signal. Four forced-choice questions add information about the working situations you prefer when appealing options compete.

How directions are ranked

Each of the twelve career-direction families has a published internal weight across the six signals. A direction’s score combines:

  • 70% theme compatibility — how closely your six signal scores match the direction’s work pattern.
  • 20% forced-choice preferences — whether your choices favor the kinds of activity the direction commonly involves.
  • 10% feasibility — whether the direction’s typical retraining and uncertainty fit the constraints you selected.

Ties are resolved by feasibility, then by lower retraining burden, then by a stable identifier. The same answers always produce the same free result.

The twelve direction families

Product and project leadership; data and research; software and technical building; design and creative communication; teaching and facilitation; counseling and people support; entrepreneurship and business development; operations and process improvement; marketing and audience growth; community and social impact; skilled practical work; and independent consulting.

What a score does not mean

Scores are relative values within this assessment. They are not population percentiles, aptitude scores, hiring recommendations, or evidence that you are qualified for a role. Career families are broad territories containing very different jobs, environments, and entry requirements.

Why the result includes experiments

Self-report can reveal promising hypotheses, but lived evidence is stronger. Every direction therefore ends with a small seven-day experiment and a disconfirming question. The goal is not to defend the result; it is to learn cheaply whether the work itself holds your interest.

How AI is used

The free result is generated entirely by deterministic code. AI is used only for the optional paid report, where it expands the already selected directions into narrative guidance and an exploration plan. The report is constrained to the supplied assessment evidence and is instructed not to invent salaries, labor-market claims, licensing requirements, or psychometric conclusions. AI output can still be wrong and should be verified independently.
